Hiking and Biking at Fort Walsh

hiking

Discover Fort Walsh's scenic trails!

Hike or bike and choose your own adventure as you explore Fort Walsh.

The Métis Trail located at the picnic site is perfect for the entire family. This tranquil 550m trail winds along the beautiful Battle Creek. Wheelchair and stroller friendly.

Looking for something more adventurous? Then try the Backcountry Trail. This 6.5 km loop trail that explores the abandoned trading posts in the Battle Creek valley. The air sweet with the scent of pine and an alpine-like carpet of fescue prairie wildflowers at your feet.

If you find the Backcountry Trail too taxing by the time you get to the abandoned trading posts, no worries, you can take the much easier 2.5 km access road back to the fort.

See if you can find the Parks Canada Red Chairs on a short and steep, er, sweet trail offering magnificent views of the fort and hills.
